How to Make a Video Voiceover With ElevenLabs Voices

A good voiceover usually takes two apps. You generate audio in a voice tool, export it, drag it into an editor, and line it up with the picture. Then you change one sentence in the script and do it all again.

EasyVid voices the script inside the video project instead. Every line is generated in the scene it belongs to, so you hear it against its picture and can redo one line without touching the rest. This guide shows how to do that with ElevenLabs voices, which EasyVid calls HD voices.

The Voices You Can Choose From

The voice picker has two libraries:

  • HD voices come from ElevenLabs: about 90 voices with different ages, accents, and languages, from narrators and newsreaders to character voices. Choosing an HD voice needs a paid plan.
  • Standard voices come from Google Gemini: 30 voices, from bright and upbeat to gravelly and soft, at a lower cost.

Both libraries take the same emotion presets and speech tags, so you can mix them in one video. Older projects may also show a few Basic voices; they still play for characters that already use them, but new picks come from HD or Standard voices.

Step 1: Write or Paste the Script

Start a project and describe your idea, or choose I have my own script and paste it. In an EasyVid script, each spoken line starts with the name of whoever says it:

[Wide shot of a foggy harbor at dawn]
<Narrator> Every morning, the boats went out before the town woke up.
<Mara> [whispers] Not today.

Visuals go in square brackets and spoken lines start with a name in angle brackets. A narrator is a voice only and never appears on screen. If your pasted script is in another format, click Fix formatting and EasyVid converts it without changing your words.

Step 2: Let EasyVid Cast the Voices

When EasyVid writes or formats the script, it gives every speaker a voice that suits them, matched by gender, language, and age.

On a paid plan, the Script tab has a Voice style switch. Set it to Expressive and EasyVid casts from the HD voices and sets the emotion of each line from the script. Neutral casts from the Standard voices instead. Director projects are always cast from the HD voices.

Step 3: Swap Any Voice You Don't Like

Open the Storyboard tab. Every spoken line has a microphone button with the speaker's voice name on it. Click it to open the voice picker, where you can:

  • search the voices
  • filter by language, accent, gender, and age
  • press Preview to hear a sample before you choose

Picking a voice changes it for that character, so every line they speak uses it. Regenerate their lines to hear the new voice. You can also change a voice from the character's own editor.

Step 4: Direct the Delivery

Next to each line's voice button is a Voice Style menu. Leave it on Neutral for a plain read, or pick one of more than 30 presets such as Happy, Sad, Whispering, Sarcastic, Nervous, or Determined. There are character styles too, like Pirate, Sports Coach, and Medieval Knight. A character can have a default style that applies to all their lines, and any single line can override it.

For a change partway through a line, write a speech tag in square brackets where it should happen: [sighs], [laughs], or [whispers]. The voice performs the tag instead of reading it out. When EasyVid writes the script, it adds tags like these where a line needs one.

Step 5: Fix Lines One at a Time

If you edit a line's text, the storyboard tells you the audio is out of date. Regenerate that line and nothing else changes. If no AI voice gets a line right, record it yourself in the browser or upload your own audio for that line.

In Director, each scene's voice audio goes to the video model with the scene, so the character speaks the line on camera with the voice you chose.

What It Costs

Voices are charged by the number of characters in the line:

  • Standard voices: 9 credits per 1,000 characters
  • HD voices: 30 credits per 1,000 characters for a neutral line, and 60 for a line with an emotion style or a speech tag

Credits come with every paid plan. See pricing for what each plan includes.

Common Problems

The HD voices are greyed out. Choosing an HD voice needs a paid plan. Standard voices are in the same picker.

The voice sounds flat. Give the line an emotion from the Voice Style menu, or add a speech tag where the feeling changes, then regenerate it.

The accent or language is wrong. Filter the picker by language or accent and preview a few voices before you pick.

Two characters sound too alike. Give one of them a voice with a different age or accent. Every line that character speaks follows the change.

Can I clone my own voice? Not at the moment. Record or upload your own audio for the lines you want in your voice.
